Starting Out

Every time I start something new with a computer it seems to be real difficult at first.  Then in time it smooths out and becomes routine.  Well, let's hope for the best.  My objective here is to have a blog that focuses on nutrition, health, all aspects of the grass-fed meat game, and other pertinent subjects not currently on my mind.  So let's get with it and see how this blog works or doesn't work.

  1. I know this may sound like a stupid question....but, I am having a difficult time identifying what precisely constitutes a 'starchy' vegetable. I have referenced many books and websites and many of the lists are contradictory to one another. The best list I have come up with so far is my own compilation and it goes potatoes, sweet potatoes, winter squash, beets, carrots (high sugar), peas* and corn* (*neither vegetables). However, Lauren Cordain reccomends both beets and carrots (as well as mushrooms)....Are some ok in moderation if served with other non-starchy vegetables? What am I missing? Also, I couldn't help but notice that on the food pyramid posted here that it clearly shows carrots, as well as watermelon?! Not that I wouldn't LOVE to believe THAT was a vegetable....Any insight?

  2. Here's a list of starchy vegetables:

But I do not try to bracket foods by carbohydrates and starches. I prefer to use my food analysis listing and follow the ABCs for food selection.
